Abstract

The core issue of the Jewish History in Spain in Medieval Ages – Laws of Valladolid of
1412 – is examined. Social and political conditions that preceded the expulsion of Jews from
Spain are shown. It is claimed, that new legislation wasn’t intended to segregate the Jews and
newly converted people from the Judaism, but to destroy the basic principles of Jewish life
in Spain and convert the Jews into Christianity. The developing of Castilian and Aragon laws
towards zero tolerance for religion minorities is traced. The outstanding role of the Dominican
order in the researched process is emphasized. The connection between this order and rulers
from the Trastamara dynasty of Spain as the main executants of the new anti-Jewish policy
is revealed.
Keywords: Dominican order, conversos, moriscos, Castile, Aragon.
