Protestantism on Ukrainian territory

Abstract

Early (Lutherans, Anabaptists, Pietists, Calvinists, Anglicans, Mennonites) and late
(Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostals) Protestant movements in their quantitative and spatial
distribution on Ukrainian territory are distinguished and reviewed. The informative historical
background on the some of Protestant movements is given. The reasons for the weak presence
of the early Protestantism movements and the prevalence of late Protestant denominations in
Ukraine are explained. The modern confessional situation in Ukraine is analyzed in details.
Particular attention is paid to the Neo-Protestantism using as example the Church of Christ, the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint and the Charismatic churches. An overall assessment
of the process of entering of Protestant denominations into Ukrainian society is described.
The trends of changes of Protestantism processes and their importance for the historical fate
of Ukraine are shown. Critically examining the experience of protestantizating of Ukraine,
the author predicts its further religious development.
