Abstract

The relationship of the secular and the religious in the everyday life of the Ukrainian
Orthodox believers in the post-secular society is investigated. It is established that due to the
lack of a closed cycle of the traditional mechanism of assimilation of religious experience a
significant number of Ukrainian Orthodox believers in the process of primary socialization
have internalized the secular culture. In a post-secular world, religion is forced to return it’s
social and cultural position by the cultivation of the synthesis of the secular and the religious.
In everyday life the believer can declare adherence to religious norms and principles, but
to subordinate his values and behavior to other imperatives. The interaction of secular
and confessional elements is the core of the life-world of a believer person, determines
her everyday life. If a person makes a conscious choice in favor of religious tenets, the
transformation of the secular worldview takes a long time and much effort.
