Symbols in decoration of renaissance tabernacles
Abstract
The architectonic shape and decoration of renaissance tabernacles have symbolic
significance. Among the most popular architectonic shapes and decorations there
were: aediculae, niches, coffering, conch with shell, panoply motives and vegetative
ornament such as grapevine, leaves and fruits of figs, or laurel wreath. The themes
of decoration of renaissance tabernacles are often of biblical origins.
