Abstract
Three main images of St. George: Martyrs, patron (warrior), protector (rider) in
works of Kievan Rus art are analyzed. The reasons of the iconographic types changes
under the influence of religious, political and social factors are grounded. Dominant
iconographic types of St George’s icons before and after the Mongol conquest of
Rus are established.
